How Forex Trading Works

There are many different ways to make money with trading. One way is by trading currencies. This is known as "Foreign Exchange Trading" or "Forex Trading". Here's how Forex Trading works.

Forex Trading is taking one country's currency and trading it for another country's currency in an effort to make a profit. So a person might trade American dollars for Euros or any country's money for another country's money. The hope would be that the money you buy strengthens against the money you just traded so that you can make a profit.

How Forex Trading works becomes much clearer when an example is used. We'll sell American dollars and buy Euros.

Say you have $1000 in American currency. You think the dollar will weaken against the Euro so you trade that $1000 for 500 Euros (we'll use that just for this example to make things easier). Now, while you have the 500 Euros, the dollar weakens against the Euro so if you were to make that same trade now it would cost you $1050. So, that also means that you get $1050 when you exchange those 500 Euros back. You just made $50.

This profit can be made even larger when the trader uses what is known as margin. Margin allows the trader to put down a small percentage of the trade. So, you could use the $1000 and borrow $99,000 on margin. Then you're trading $100,000 and making $5000 rather than just $50.

Of course, margin not only allows you to boost your profits but it will also magnify your losses. So be careful when using margin.

That's basically how Forex Trading works. You simply exchange one currency for another. You are betting on the currency you are buying strengthening against the currency you're selling. If you are right you'll make money but if you're wrong then you will certainly lose money.
